Palacio de los Mártires

In the surroundings of the Alhambra, in addition to the Nasrid Palaces, there are a series of monuments, parks and cármenes that deserve great attention. One of them is the Carmen de los Mártires, which is located on the Alhambra hill.

Originally located on dungeons from the Nasrid era, it was converted into a Carmelite convent after the conquest of the city by the Catholic Monarchs, with Saint John of the Cross as prior for some years.

In the 19th century, the current palace was built, following the trends of the time, with splendid gardens in which French and English models intermingle along with the aesthetics of Andalusian gardens.

Jardín Mártires

Currently, the Carmen belongs to the Granada City Council, and the outdoor area is open to public visits free of charge, although there are also private visits outside official hours. On the other hand, artistic and cultural events and official receptions are held in this Carmen.
